We check online with the companies registry, confirming that your company name is acceptable and is not already registered.
The company name will be checked at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We then need confirmation from the German Trade Register (Handelsregister). There are more than 400 local trade registers in Germany, as well as several Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The trade registrer will refuse a name if it is identical to, almost identical to or phonetically the same as an existing name, or if it implies state sponsorship.
Use of certain words such as Bank, Insurance and Group will require special permission.
The suffix 'Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung' or the abbreviation GmbH must normally always be appended to the company designation. In those cases where the company has formed as a UG, the suffix 'Unternehmergesellschaft' must be used, until the company becomes a full GmbH.
