Registration of your company name

We apply for a certificate issued by the Registro Mercantil, confirming that your company name is acceptable and is not already registered. Company names in Spain must be pre-approved for availability and acceptability. The Spanish Registro Mercantil has an advanced electronic name reservation system.

The Registro Mercantil will only refuse a name if it is identical, almost identical or phonetically the same as a name already registered or implies state sponsorship. Use of certain words such as Bank, Insurance and Group will require special permission.

Spanish company name suffixes

One of the following suffixes must be added to your company name to show that the company has limited liability.

• Sociedad Limitada (SL)
• Société Anonyme (SA)
